Latham Park Discover Sioux City's Best Kept Secret
The Fountain Restoration
August - September, 2004
Funded by a Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD) Grant

The L&L Builders crew lifts the marble fountain basin following removal of the cherub.

It has to get worse before getting better!

Red Hat Society members stop by for a look as old, crumbling concrete is chipped away.

Foulk Bros. Plumbing lays new water pipe & controls; Thompson Electric provides juice to make it work.

Muriatic acid works on the marble pedestal while concrete forms are installed.

..... but shared by many of the L&L workers.

Finishing the concrete is backbreaking work .....

Then it goes "under wraps to cure while the surrounding area is swept up and re-sodded.

Craig Arnett, who sandblasted years of calcium from our little friend, is proud of his part in the restoration project.
The fountain was formally re-dedicated on May 7, 2005, with MRHD and city dignitaries joining the Friends of Latham Park for the ceremony.
Below, the fountain remains beautiful in the summer of 2015.
